Images of architecture were among the earliest subjects favored by photographers
and remain so to the present day. The six artists in the show, David Armstrong,
James Casebere, Lynn Davis,
Candida Hofer, Robert Stivers, and
Shelburne Thurber, have found in the representation of built forms the means to
examine our relationship to landscape, history and the social order. For these
artists a building is anything but simple shelter and the various methodologies
they employ are evidence of the fascinating dialogue between architecture and the
photographic medium.
