David Armstrong: Model Boy

David Armstrong
Thiebaud, Paris, 2005
Color Coupler Print
30 x 24 inches

For over twenty years David Armstrong's portraits and soft focus landscape scenes have been exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He has several well received books to his credit, including: A Double Life (1994), The Silver Cord (1997), and All Day Every Day (2001). A Boston native and graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Armstrong’s contribution to contemporary art photography has been secured by the compelling idiosyncratic beauty of his subjects and frank intimate view into his personal experience.

Five years ago Armstrong began working in the fashion world and since then his work has been featured in French Vogue, L’Uomo Vogue, Arena Homme Plus and Visionaire. Armstrong’s photographs of fashion models which are featured in this, his third solo exhibition at the gallery, draw on his profound sensibilities as a portraitist, his mastery of ambient and natural lighting, and the reductive simplicity of his formal arrangements. Armstrong’s seductive tributes to male beauty address issues of vulnerability and tenderness and record the photographer’s romantic obsessions with his distinctive penetrating gaze.
